Europa Conference League Standings: How the 2026/27 Table Works

This page explains how the Europa Conference League standings work and what the live table below shows. Officially renamed the UEFA Conference League in 2024, it is UEFA’s third-tier club competition, sitting below the Champions League and the Europa League. The table below updates automatically through the 2026/27 season, so you can see each team’s position, points and matches played at a glance – and the sections underneath explain the format, what every position means, how ties are broken, the key dates and how to follow it all from New Zealand.

What the Europa Conference League is

The Europa Conference League is UEFA’s third-tier competition for club football in Europe, launched in 2021/22 to give more clubs – especially from smaller national leagues – regular European matches. It ranks below the UEFA Champions League (first tier) and the UEFA Europa League (second tier). The 2026/27 season is the sixth edition. All 36 clubs reach the main stage through qualifying rounds rather than being placed there automatically, and the eventual winner earns a place in the following season’s Europa League.

How the league phase table works

The standings above are a single league phase table of 36 teams, not several small groups. This format replaced the old group stage in 2024/25. Every club plays six matches – three at home and three away – against six different opponents, and all 36 teams are ranked together in one table.

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

That makes 108 league-phase matches in total. If you are new to league tables, our guide on how to read a sports standings table walks through each row and column, and our glossary explains the table abbreviations like W, D, L, GD and Pts you will see across the top.

What each position in the table means

Where a club finishes in the 36-team table decides its route into the knockout rounds. There is no promotion or relegation here – the Conference League is a knockout cup, so the table only sorts teams for the next stage.

  • Positions 1-8: qualify directly for the round of 16, skipping the extra play-off round.
  • Positions 9-24: enter the knockout phase play-offs, a two-legged round that decides the last eight round-of-16 places. Teams ranked 9th-16th are seeded and play the second leg at home; teams ranked 17th-24th are unseeded.
  • Positions 25-36: are eliminated and drop out of European competition for the season.

So finishing in the top eight is the real prize of the league phase: it is worth a direct spot in the round of 16 and avoids a potential knockout tie. The club that tops the table does not win anything on its own – the champion is decided by the final, not by the standings.

How ties in the table are broken

When two or more teams finish the league phase level on points, UEFA separates them using a set order of tiebreakers rather than a play-off. The criteria are applied in this sequence until the tie is broken:

  1. Higher goal difference across all league-phase matches
  2. Higher number of goals scored
  3. Higher number of goals scored away from home
  4. Higher number of wins
  5. Higher number of away wins
  6. Fewer disciplinary points (based on yellow and red cards)
  7. Higher UEFA club coefficient

Note that this competition uses overall goal difference, not head-to-head results, to split level teams – a key difference from some domestic leagues. For a fuller explanation of ranking rules across different sports, see our guide to how points and tiebreakers work.

Key dates for the 2026/27 season

The league phase runs across six matchdays from October to December 2026, with the knockout rounds and final following in 2027. These are the scheduled dates (UEFA notes they can change):

How the season ends

The Europa Conference League ends with a single-match final, not with a league winner. After the league phase and the February play-offs, the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals are all played over two legs (home and away). The two semi-final winners then meet in a one-off final. The 2026/27 final is set for Wednesday 2 June 2027 at Besiktas Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. The winners lift the trophy and qualify for the following season’s UEFA Europa League.

How to follow the Conference League from New Zealand

In New Zealand, UEFA Conference League matches are shown by the streaming service DAZN, which holds the New Zealand rights to all three UEFA club competitions through to the end of the 2026/27 season. League-phase games are played on Thursday evenings in Europe, which falls on Friday morning in New Zealand: the two usual kick-off slots of 18:45 and 21:00 CET translate to roughly 6:45am and 9:00am NZDT on the Friday. The final on 2 June 2027 kicks off in the evening in Istanbul, which is early on the morning of Thursday 3 June in New Zealand (NZST). Always check DAZN’s schedule for the exact times, as kick-offs and listings can change. English clubs often reach this competition through their domestic finishing position, so if you also follow the top flight, our Premier League standings page explains how those European places are earned.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the Europa Conference League the same as the UEFA Conference League?

How many teams are in the Conference League table?

The league phase has 36 teams ranked in a single table. Each plays six matches – three at home and three away – against six different opponents.

Three points for a win, one point for a draw and none for a loss – the same system used across UEFA club competitions.

What happens to the top teams in the standings?

The top eight advance straight to the round of 16. Teams finishing 9th to 24th go into a two-legged knockout play-off, while those placed 25th to 36th are eliminated from Europe for the season.

How can I watch the Conference League in New Zealand?

Matches are streamed in New Zealand on DAZN, which holds the rights to UEFA’s club competitions through the 2026/27 season. Most league-phase games fall on Friday mornings New Zealand time.
